IMPORTANT INFORMATION - COVID-19

IMPORTANT UPDATE 18/07/2020

The past couple of weeks have seen a number of spikes in cases of coronavirus on the mainland of Spain. Therefore, the local government here has recently introduced new measures in the Balearics. It will now be obligatory to wear facemasks at all times, and in certain areas of Magaluf and Playa de Palma shops, bars, restaurants have been ordered to close until at least mid September.

Since announcing the re-opening of the hotel and after monitoring the evolution of the situation here on the island, it is with extreme regret that we must advise all our guests that the hotel will now not be able to open for the rest of the 2020 season.

We are extremely sorry for the disappointment this will cause to all our guests who will be affected by this news, however, the management feels that this is the responsible decision given the current climate. At this difficult time, we would like to thank you all for your patience and understanding.

We will be back in 2021 and look forward to being able to provide you with the holiday you deserve. In the meantime, over the coming weeks we will be contacting everyone regarding their bookings and options.

UPDATE 07/07/20

We are very happy to be able to announce that the Hotel Son Matias will finally be re-opening on 28/07/2020 and are looking forward to being able to welcome you all again.

As we re-start the season we understand that there will be a lower number of guests in the hotel than is normal for this time of year.

Our wish is for you to have a relaxing holiday and so for your peace of mind we will be adopting a series of new measures which include but are not limited to the following :

• Reduced capacity in the bar, restaurant and pool areas. • Additional safety measures including extra and more frequent cleaning of rooms and all common areas of hotel. • By law masks must be worn when social distancing is not possible. • Increase in number of hidroalcoholic gel stations. The use of hidroalcoholic gel will be obligatory in the restaurant. • Assisted buffet and separate meal sittings in restaurant.

UPDATE 23/05/20

Getting closer to to the new normal.

Although the Spanish Government has extended the State of Alarm until 06/06/2020, the ministry of health has confirmed that Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca will enter in to phase 2 from Monday 25/05/2020. Formentera has already entered phase 2 last Monday.

This means that in addition to the restrictions that were lifted in phase 1, we now no longer have set hours to go out for walks or exercise, but can go out at any time and with the radius for walks increased from 1 km to 5 kms.

Bars and restaurants will now be able to use the inside of the establishments and not just the terraces, although at a reduced capacity and table service only.

In addition the larger stores over 400m2 can now also open to the public, as can cinemas and theatres, again at a reduced capacity and safety measures in place.

It will also now be possible for people to start using the beaches again to sunbathe and also to go for a swim. Obviously there will be a maximum capacity at one time with separation of 4 metres between each section of sunbeds.

Cases of coronavirus remain very low on the islands and the outlook is very positive for a return to normality.

We will continue to keep you all updated, but we are beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel and are looking forward to the future with optimism as we work towards the new normal sometime at the end of June.

*UPDATE 08/05/20**

The Spanish Government has applied to extend the State of Alarm until 24/05/20.

They have introduced a 5 phase plan from 0 to 4, with 4 being the “new normal.”

We are currently in phase 0 which allows us to go out for walks for 1 hour, once per day at a radius of 1km from home or in the case of sporting activities within the municipality. Each age group is allowed out during specified times.

Ages 14 to 70 - between 06:00H to 10:00H OR 20:00H to 23:00H. Children under 14 - between 12:00H to 19:00H Adults over 70 - between 10:00 to 12:00H OR 19:00H to 20:00H

In each phase they are slowly relaxing the restrictions.

Phase 1 will include, for example, the opening of some small shops, café/bar/restaurant (terraces only) at reduced capacity with health measures in place.

The transition to each phase has no definite date and will depend on each region meeting a certain set of criteria as laid down by the health authorities.

The Balearic government has stated that they currently meet the requirements as laid doen by the Ministry of Health and so have requested to enter in to phase 1 with effect form 11th May 2020.

UPDATE 27/04/20

The Spanish government has announced that the situation is continuing to improve in general, and that on a daily basis we are seeing a decline in the number of coronavirus cases.

The lockdown has currently been extended to 9th May 2020 although with some easing of restrictions. However it is not yet clear if this will be extended further.

From yesterday, children up to 14 years of age are now allowed to play for an hour in the street accompanied by one parent, up to a radius of 1km from their residence. Parks and green areas are still off limits however and social distancing must be adhered to.

If all goes well this week, The President of the government has stated that from 2nd May, adults will be permitted to leave the house for an hour a day for a walk or other form of exercise under the same conditions as the children.

Positive steps as restrictions start to be eased.

UPDATE 13/04/20

Latest information from the Spanish government states that the situation would appear to be starting to improve in general, and that we are beginning to see a a flattening of the curve of coronavirus cases.

The lockdown has currently been extended to 26th April, however we do not yet know what will happen after this date.

We are receiving queries from guests with future reservations where the outstanding balance on their holiday is due.

Due to the current uncertainty, if you wish to hold off on paying the outstanding balance, this will in no way affect your booking. For those who have already paid , please do not worry, we will be in contact with you.

We are continuing to process reservations in date arrival order.

UPDATE 30/03/20

Just to let all our guests know that with effect from today, the Spanish Government has now decreed that any non essential workers are currently prohibited from places of work.

However, please be assured that we are now, therefore, working remotely from home and working to process all the reservations affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19).

UPDATE 23/03/20

As you can appreciate, we are receiving an inordinate amount of emails due to the current situation with the coronavirus (COVID-19).

We are currently working on answering these as quickly as possible but would ask for your patience while we do so.

Over the next weeks we will be contacting affected guests regarding their reservations.

UPDATE 16/03/20

In response to local measures introduced throughout Spain to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the management would advise all our guests that from today , the hotel is unable to accept new bookings until further notice.

Bookings made on our website www.matiasbeach.com with arrival dates between 15/03/2020 and 31/03/2020 will receive a full refund. It will not be necessary to contact the hotel via phone or email as refunds will be processed automatically.

Guests who have booked via www.matiasbeach.com and whose arrival date is after the above mentioned period can either cancel the booking with a full refund or maintain their booking pending future changes to the situation. This is a fast changing and complex situation, but the health and safety of our guests is our first priority, and we would like to thank all of you for your understanding.
