XXIV CALVIA MARATHON & HALF MARATHON21/10/07

This year sees the XXIV Calvía Marathon & Half Marathon which will be held on 16th December 2007.

The marathon was inaugurated in 1984 as a purely local event and the first mens race was won by Mallorcin José María Sanchez in 2h. 38:49 min. María Antónia Caldentey was the winner of the ladies race in 3h. 44:00 min.

The Marathon has attracted international attention and last years race saw the participation of athletes from 24 countries and 3 continents.

This years event promises an even bigger field of competitors all trying to beat the current record set in 1988 by Cuban Radames Gonzalez (2h 13:08 min) and Russian Lynbok Klohko (2h 34:36 min).

The current ladies half marathon record holder is Kathryn Charnock from England who ran the race in 1h. 21:15 min.
